Recycled bottle Tawny Frogmouths
Every year we have a family of Tawny Frogmouths that come and nest at our school. To stick with the theme of recycled art the Grade 3 and 4 students made their own Tawny Frogmouths to celebrate their arrival for another year made entirely from recycled plastic bottles and recycled papers. I got the idea from the blog Craftberry Bush you can find her activity here.

Fierce or friendly cats
This idea came from a comment made by one of the Prep teachers that students showed a lack of vocabulary in relation to textures. I thought this would be a good theme for Term 3. We began looking at 'Gregorys Magic Line' and experimented with drawing different types of lines with different mediums. This then led into the activity 'Fierce or Friendly?'
Students studied the way that artists represent cats and how they show their temperament by the types of lines they use to draw them. They then completed an activity where they made a cat surprise where they had to draw clues in the form of lines and marks on the front of a folded piece of paper to show what kind of cat resided inside. They loved the fact that is was a secret and majority of students really grasped the concept and created some amazing lines to describe their cat inside.

Warm and cold bodies
The preps continued their study of colour by creating vibrant and dynamic drawings using the outlines of their own bodies and filling in their bodies using groups of warm and cold colours. They were encouraged to identify warm and cool colours and place them into groups and then complete the drawing with patterns. They had a ball!!
Archibald Prize Unit 3
They were encouraged to focus on shadows with an emphasis on shading.

Recycled stamps
Sticking with our theme of recycled art, students made stamps from styrofoam trays and bottle tops and used them to construct Mothers Day cards. Tutorial found here. It was an unexpected success and the students enjoyed being able to make something and use it straight away. They enjoyed this project alot.
