Melbourne Street Art Tour

Yesterday we took Level 4 students to the city for a tour of Melbourne Lane way Street Art. We went with http://www.melbournestreettours.com/. The tours are run by the artists themselves who have a in depth knowledge of the work, techniques and the artists that created them. It was fantastic day out. The students I think broadened their idea of art and learnt about some amazing work that can be found right under their noses if only they take the time to look.

Organic clay sculptures

After a year or so of waiting our organic sculpture garden installation is now complete!!! What a great way to enter the school :)

Meet the artist

This term Level 4 students studied three artists Leonardo DaVinci, Vincent Van Gogh and Albrecht Druer. They were asked to decide who inspired them the most and then create an artwork of their choosing using the chosen artist as an influence. As usual they have come out with some fantastic results.

Art elements and individualised learning

This term Level 2 students were introduced to the art elements line, colour, shape, space and texture (we just ran out of time to do form!). In line with our schools implementation of the Kathy Walker Learning Approach I have attempted this term to approach the teaching and learning of Art in a similar way.

Every two weeks the students were introduced to an art element where we read a book and had a class discussion on the topic. They were then presented with four different learning stations where they could experiment using different mediums and in their own time and own way discover to explore the art element in focus.

They were free to move from one station to the next or stay at one if they felt like it. The outcomes were truly fantastic and I believe they learn much more from this approach then if I presented them with one activity only which they all had to do. This approach allowed students to explore a topic but in a way that appealed to them and kept them engaged.

Although very labour intensive for me in terms of setting up the activities and then taking them away as well as compiling their books at the end of the term I was so excited ad impressed by their outcomes I will gladly staple and tape hundreds of books on my weekends and days off again :)

We also did texture and space. Below is some of the work the students created having freedom to explore each art element in their own way.

Art elements and Abstract art

This term Level 3 students were introduced to the art elements line, colour, shape, space and texture (we just ran out of time to do form!) by looking at Mondrian, Kadinsky and Duchamp. In line with our schools implementation of the Kathy Walker Learning Approach I have attempted this term to approach the teaching and learning of Art in a similar way.

Every two weeks the students were introduced to a new artist and in turn the art elements that these artist use to create their work.
