Detailed shell sketches

After conducting various sketching exercises students were required to draw a detailed sketch of a shell they had studied in detail in the previous exercises. The results surprised the students as much as me.

Self portraits

Students created a self portrait in their favourite place which could have been a real or imaginary place. They explored drawing and collage techniques.

Emotional cats

Level 2 students explored drawing techniques using oil and chalk pastels and how to convey emotion using these techniques. They then made an emotional cat where on one side the cat was friendly and the other it was mean and angry. Students were challenged to create these emotions using learnt drawing techniques, different medium and colour.

Previously to these drawings students created charts on using oil and chalk pastels to create different techniques such as drawing; spiky grass, soft fur, smooth skin. They were challenged to draw these and then present them in a chart for display and future reference.

Animation puppetry with Tony Lawrence

In conjunction with the 'Artists in Schools Project' animator Tony Lawrence came to our school and taught Level 4 students how to make a claymation puppet as well how to create a short stop frame animation film. It was a lot of hard work and I think we may have broke the record for the most stop frame animation puppets made at once!! but it was well worth the blisters on my fingers from drilling 100 bits of wood together as the results were fantastic and the students learnt a lot.
The students made the puppets in art with me, then wrote their haiku poems and planned their story boards with their class teacher and then created the movie with Tony.

The resulting product, much to Tony's credit is excellent.
Have a look!!
